How to translate subtitles and text objects?

When you need to create videos in different languages, Moovly’s translate feature can be a powerful tool to use. This process works via our Google Translate integration or via an XLIFF file upload


With the following instructions, you will be able to translate your project into the language of your choice. Translating subtitles can be done on the Dashboard and in the Moovly Studio .

Translate a project on the Dashboard

  1.  Select the project that you want to translate. On the upper right corner, click on More, and select Translate Project.



  1.  Choose between Google Translate and XLIFF import/export.



  1.  With Google Translate you get the following options:



  • Pick the language you currently have in your project and choose the destination language.
  • The second option allows you to translate the entire project or just the text object and/or subtitles
  • The third option allows you to create a new project of the translation and/or add them to your existing project.
  • Finally, click Translate to start the translation of your project.


  1. When translated, depending on which option you have chosen previously a new project will be created, and/or your project will be translated into your chosen language.


  1. To translate your project with a different tool choose XLIFF import/export.




  • Click Export XLIFF to download your text objects.
  • To insert your translated file click Import XLIFF




  • Upload the XLIFF file and choose between importing all text objects and/or all subtitles.
  • Finally, choose to create a new project with the translated text and/or add the subtitles to a new subtitle track in the same project.
  • Click Import XLIFF to start the progress.


Translate a project in the Moovly Studio

  1.  In the Moovly Studio go to the Toolkit and choose between Google Translate or XLIFF import/export on the Subtitles button above the Stage.


  1. With Google Translate you see the following options:


  1. Pick the language you currently have in your project and choose the preferred language to translate.
  2. The second option allows you to translate the entire project or just the text object and/or subtitles
  3. The third option allows you to create a new project of the translation and/or add them to your existing project.
  4. Finally, click Translate to start the translation of your project.


The translated subtitles will automatically add a new subtitle layer to your project:




To translate your project with a different tool than Google Translate choose
XLIFF import/export:
